It looks like all of the passengers and crew got off safely from the plane that crashed into the Hudson River after hitting a flock of geese. I still feel awful for them, though. From the pictures and clips I've seen, it looks like they weren't allowed to bring their coats on the life rafts, and its as bitter freezing there as it is here.

It looks like even the plane itself might be okay. I really hope the airline gets the passengers' purses and coats and things back to them ASAP. How terrible to be stranded in some city with no ID or wallet or even coat.

They are very lucky that the plane didn't hit a solid object, and that it landed in a river plied by lots of commuter ferry boats.

Speeding up the rescue, and minimizing weight on the boats, may have been the reasons the passengers couldn't bring their coats with them.

How marvelous to be alive under those circumstances! And the airline is most certainly taking very good care of them —they're not stranded, they're in a very secure cocoon.

It was awful to step off my second flight today (the one that was over the Gulf of Mexico for a long stretch) and immediately hear the news of the crash.

Oh [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom, I think they're well cared for by the airline. I mean, US Airways is pretty shitty when it comes to routine travel, but I heard on the news that they have liaisons that specially take care of everything for you and make sure you get home and have a hotel to stay at.

Some were taken to the hospital, and some were said to have boarded another flight home by the time of the evening news. Now that takes a lot of nerve to get right back on another plane in a few hours! I'd be taking the train, thank you.

I feel very bad for them too, although it is said some never even got wet, because the ferries were on the scene in seconds. The passengers on those ferries were very heroic too, gathering up rope and life vests and everything they could do to help.

For those that did get wet, I'm sure they aren't thinking about it. I'm sure they're glad to be anything at that point other than, well, what could have happened.

There's so much bad news in the world. It's nice to hear a story with a miraculous outcome.

That said, I do wonder when you get your luggage back. And do you really want it after it's been soaking in the Hudson River?

yeah, not exactly what I wanted to be hearing the day before I'm scheduled to fly in the same type of plane with the same airline.
Thank God they are all safe. I also thought about them getting their luggage and things back but you know what? They're probably just so freaking glad to be alive that "things" are not very high on their list right now.
*takes deep breath*
Okay Boston - here I come!
