I'm a native Clevelander, too. We lived there until I was 13, but I only remember what I child would know about it, like where the best playgrounds were. :-)
We lived in Cleveland Heights. My grandpa took us to Indians games. My mom's family has been in Cleveland for like 5 generations. The last time I was there (Cleveland proper) was about 10 years ago. I think its cool. It has a great arts scene.
The person I swiped this from, evilshell, is from Cleveland and is currently living in Switzerland.
I totally forgot you lived in Cleveland Heights! I haven't been back in 15 years. As near as I can tell from Google Street View, Coventry has *totally* changed.
My family lived in Akron from 1965 to 1968, and I frequently made trips with them to Cleveland. I remember going to at least one Indians game in the huge old Cleveland Stadium.
I worked at that Stadium throughout high school. Cleveland Municipal Stadium held close to 90,000 people. I was very sad to see them tear it down, but it was really run down and old.
Do you remember the Health Museum with the Transparent Talking Woman? My dad dropped me there for a few hours while he went to do some errand elsewhere in the city.
I don't know of any "Transparent Talking Woman" but I'm very familiar with the Health Museum. Its still there and it has a giant tooth statue out front!
Cleveland is known for some odd public art. My favorite is the "free stamp" outside of city hall.
I wanted to thank you for your comments regarding the need to not have the Zombie March running at the same time as Easter Services. I pastor a church in the square and was not overly excited to have my kids, ages 1-8 leaving our gathering to the sights of the undead on our church steps. I just thought it was particularly tactless and disrespectful.
Thanks again for your concern, I just wish others would have listened.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear they actually trespassed on your church's property! To me, that almost seems a hate crime. Your poor kids. I did my best to talk them into changing the time and date, but they were intent on spreading insult and hate. A shame -- I've enjoyed non-malicious zombie events, and I'm sorry to see it used for such ill will.
