I think that I am the only person left in the world who still eats salt bagels.

And I think that the only place left in the world that still makes salt bagels is Finagle A Bagel.

Luckily, Finagle A Bagel and my workplace are only a few blocks apart.

They're like breakfast pretzels! If Bruegger's (the only bagel shop between my home and my workplace) sold them, I'd happily eat them.

Salt bagels are my favorite species of bagel. They need to be granted protected status!

I used to get them all of the time and then I couldn't find them. I have moved over to poppy seed ones.

They're easy enough to make - here's a good recipe for bagels which I also pointed to a few entries ago.

Nah, when V can't get them, she modifies existing bagels into X bagels with salt. Just how she rolls.

you and [livejournal.com profile] sunspiral if you look at his recent LJ food posts. Had there been easily available salt bagels, he might not have been so inspired.

You know, I like salt bagels but it seems like that sudden rush of rock salt in to my system can be overpowering, sometimes. I have to make sure to have water on hand to dilute it a bit.

I like them too, though I rarely buy them. The urge is generally satisfied by homemade soft pretzels, which now has me wondering why I've never made onion or garlic ones...

whata cute name for a bagel shop!
I'm thinking a toasted bagel would be mighty tasty right about now.
Nom, indeed!

You can has them! Finagle is right at the Lechemere T stop, just across the street. When you/we get off the bus, you/we can just hop across the street and get 'em, and you can eat it on the train when you get on to go to work.

I just looked Kupel's up on Yelp. They have bear claws! I wonder if they also have the elusive-in-Boston bialys? I'll have to get down there sometime!

Yeah, I like Kupels rather a lot. It's kind of annoying to get there, but if I'm in the neighborhood.

Salt bagels are the one, true bagel....

I became an acolyte of salt bagels when I lived in New Jersey, and I ate one every single day. When I moved here they seemed to get rarer and rarer. Probably because of the general War On Salt (which must be halted!)

Thanks for friending me! I friended you back.

So I tried the recipe from Sunspiral yesterday. They're pretty good, not the best I've had, but certainly easy to make.

Really? I didn't actually look at the recipe, because when [livejournal.com profile] sunspiral says a recipe is "easy," I usually presume that it is still way above my limited cooking skills. Sounds like these would be great to bring to a brunch.

I suppose I'm not the one to ask about this, as I do bake bread regularly, but it didn't seem much harder than making a loaf of bread. Only difference being the simmering step, really. I have a few suggestions about the order of doing things, as the instructions aren't as efficient as they could be.

I am just far enough way that it is not a walk for me that would be a reasonable break :(

Nope. I love Bagels By Us but they do not have salt bagels. I haven't seen a salt bagel since I moved away from Ithaca actually.

I can go on and on about salt bagels ... so I'll make it succinct.

Salt bagels are my favorites.
Kupel's has bialies.
Bagels by US used to have bialies, but I don't think they do anymore.
Bagel Land in Winchester not only has salt bagels, but also SALT STICKS for extra pleasure.
