I have exhausted my regular unemployment benefits. I have applied for extended benefits, but time is running out. I am going to a career center in Boston today to see if I can get help with my resume or whatever they suggest.
At this point my standards have gone almost entirely out the window, and I am willing to take most jobs that are within my logistical and physical limits. I am appealing to my local friends who may know of an opening and could recommend me. Although I have 11 years experience as an administrative and executive assistant, I am willing, at least for now, to do:
*Any admin with any title
*Reception/front desk
*Switchboard
*Corporate services
*Data entry
*Mail room
*Anything involving writing
*Call center (must be salaried, not commission. That's true for all jobs.)
*Contract versions of the above
I have some limitations that I need to work around. These are:
*I can not drive a car. Must be T accessible (taxi is not T)
*I don't yet have my BA, but I'm in school and will have it in a few years
*I attend school Wednesday evenings and Saturdays. I can't work then.
*Again, school is an utmost priority, I can't defer it.
*I can't work C-shift for health reasons (both physical and mental)
*I need $30K to survive, with extreme lifestyle changes
*I will not relocate for anything in the world
Now and then friends send me leads, and if it's appropriate and I'm qualified, I apply. Thank you for those. I'm appealing to all of you to check your company's job boards. I have now applied for over 350 jobs for which I was fully qualified, to no avail. Something has to come through, and I can safely call my current situation a near-emergency. I'm leaving this post public in case networking opportunities are out there.
I have complete profiles on Monster, LinkedIn, JobCentral and JobQuest. (I automatically apply for all appropriate MIT jobs, so my hat is already in the ring there). I am registered with virtually every temp agency in the city.
Now, to the career center for any help I can get.

Date: 2010-02-22 10:21 pm (UTC)The other option is working at Starbucks. Hey, health benefits at 20 hours! And it gives you time to still pursue other part-time jobs/taking classes, but at least you get those benefits!
Between unemployment, then Starbucks, then school full-time, I managed to go 3 full years without working full-time and live the same standard of living I always had.
