plumtreeblossom: (I Want To Believe)

Spending some time today researching what I'll be able to do as a Justice of the Peace was a real spirit-lifter, and boy did I need it. Although it will take years and years to grow into a small business, I feel like a tiny corner of a huge barrier has been lifted a bit. Little by little, I can build toward doing work that I love and am proud of, not just work I endure for a paycheck. Someday I can retire and do weddings full time. I can make weddings. It gives me hope.

It's not quite time yet, but pretty soon I'm going to have to get a little website up. I haven't built a website by myself since this ancient thing (dig that 90s X-Files font). Would anyone I know be willing to help guide me if I pay you a little? The Justices' sites are generally very simple. Here, have a gander at a few.

Once I get it up I'll be glad to link anyone who runs a wedding-related business (I'm looking at [livejournal.com profile] weegoddess, who BTW makes the most gorgeous eco-friendly wedding attire on the planet.)

This is just too perfect. I'm a theatre person, a writer, and a hopeless romantic. I've never been able to turn any of those into a part-time profession, but put them all together, and maybe someday. :-)

Awesome! It's good to have a little spark to hold onto in the dark. It will grow and it will be great. :)

Do you know [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal? He's been a Justice of the Peace for several years, and he might be able to talk to you about how things go.

The website I made for my game (http://corylea.com/) is fairly rudimentary, but it was also made using for-dummies tools. I used Nvu (http://net2.com/nvu/) software to make it and Filezilla to upload it, and that was all stunningly easy.

Good luck with your new life!

I don't generally do web design, but I'm pretty desperate for work at the moment myself :) Maybe we should talk and see if there's some way we can work together.

I work on websites all the time, they're not flashy but enough simple info and I've helped businesses before too so if you need it just ask...and no money necessary :)

and I love that X Files font :)

duh! :)

If you can make a small business out of that, one you can enjoy and make a living at, I'd be thrilled for you!

If you can get someone else to design it, I'm happy to help you develop it. And we can avoid some of the mistakes everyone seems to make when developing websites and give you a good product. (Because everyone seems to think they know how to build websites, and so there's a lot of really bad code out there!) I assume [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit will sort you out hosting-wise?
