Shakespeare Lives!
Jul. 18th, 2010 06:55 pmOpening weekend of Festival@First7 was an enormous success! In spite of this seemingly permanent heat wave, we sold out two shows and almost sold out a third (maybe we did sell that one out too, I'm not sure). The little church basement was packed to the rafters, and the audiences were attentive and responsive. I'm so proud of my cast and the way they had the audience howling. In those hot Elizabethan costumes, they still managed to rock. Congrats to all the casts and crew of the festival!
I got to spend the whole weekend with
beowabbit, which was lovely. And I got to sleep at his house for the first time in about a month (we'd been mostly staying at my house on nights we were together). We were like proud parents in the audience. And we even made it to ArtBeat and a brunch.
As much as I loved directing this show, I know already that I won't be able to direct again next year. Juxtaposing directing with summer session at school (UUUGH!) and starting a new temp-to-perm where it's up to me to impress them enough to hire me has been way too much. I failed at giving my cast the attention and support they deserved, and I only want to direct if I can give my casts my full support and service. I hope I can do something in the festival next year. Maybe I can act in a small role, like Polonius in our "A Nice Danish Boy." I'd enjoy that, if I can eek out the time.
I am toast. And I have a night of homework ahead of me. But I'm happy at how the festival turned out!
