Does anyone know if there's a way to disable the Caps Lock key on a PC keyboard? I don't use it, I'll never need it, and I hit it accidentally about 20 times on any given day. I want to just get rid of the functionality. Is there a way? I've considered physically removing the key, but then, my workplace keyboard isn't mine to alter like that.

Is this the first keyboard on which you've had the problem? Maybe your IT department can just scrounge up a different style of keyboard.

No, it's been a PITA all of my typing life. I'm just more easily irritated in my old age. I figure if there's something I can do about it, I probably should.

What OS are you using? I'm guessing some version of Windows, but it may be easier or harder depending on which version.

Usually they pop off pretty easily and pop back on again equally easily, so if you don’t actually lose the key, it shouldn’t be a problem. Alternatively, you could bring in a keyboard of your own. (Keyboards are cheap. There are keyboards out there that don't have a Caps Lock key, too.)

Do you have administrator privileges on your computer? If so, here’s a link that might help:

(just something I found via Google).

I believe I do have administrator privileges on my computer. But if they make keyboards with no Caps Lock, that would be even better!

Love my geek. :-)

Until you get your Caps Lockless keyboard and if you don't want to tackle modifying your Registry (that always gives me the heebie-jeebie's) there's a free application that also solves the problem: http://www.brainsystems.com/capsunlock/

Good luck!

I got a crazy third-party keyboard which decided to move the CAPS LOCK key from the left hand side to the bottom row between the right alt and control key. Num lock is down there for some reason, too. An additional control key is where the CAPS LOCK usually goes. It's such a mixed-up little keyboard. The lack of caps lock key makes me happy until there comes a time when I need to use it and I forget it's not there and it confuses me terribly for a good 30 seconds, but what's thirty seconds of confusion in a lifetime of befuddlement?
