plumtreeblossom: (can't have nice things)
[personal profile] plumtreeblossom
That mean old bastard next door succeeded in forcing me to take down my bird feeder. This fight has been going on for a couple of weeks, and he finally threatened my very nice landlord so viciously, claiming the feeder was a public menace, that my landlord very apologetically asked me to take it down. My landlord felt awful but he can't afford litigation, especially since he'd have to travel from California for it. It was so sad this morning, seeing the sweet little birdies fly to the spot where it used to hang, and finding no more feeder full of treats.

We'll see how the old devil likes the 5'x3' gay pride rainbow flag I bought to hang where the feeder used to be. The flag has my landlord's full and enthusiastic approval!

I’m so sorry, love! But good for you and your landlord for finding a suitable replacement!

My landlord even said I could feed the birds some other way, so long as the old coot can't see it. I'm trying to figure out how. :-)

Can you just move the feeder to the opposite side of the house?

That is a pretty marvelous response on your part.

Maybe even fabulous! (if I do say so myself)

I would think "a bird feeder is a public menace" would be thrown out of court!

But good for you, for thinking of something that Horrible Neighbor is likely to hate even more -- IF he knows what it is.

This guy is a piece of work. He is about 85 but mean as a hornet and he's forever harassing neighbors. He calls City Hall all the time over ridiculous things and I'm sure they hate him as much as we do. He's also very racist. And we'll soon see how much of a homophobe he is!

He sounds awful; I'm sorry you have to live next to him.

My one question is whether such an old man knows what a rainbow flag means, or if it's just pretty colors to him. You might want to make sure he gets it. June was Pride month; you could say something about wishing you'd gotten your GAY PRIDE FLAG in time for gay pride month. :-)

I have tall veggie plants growing on that balcony that are visible to him. Maybe I should put a sign out with an arrow pointing to them saying HOMOSEXUAL FEEDER. :-)

Sounds nearly as bad as my old neighbor complaining about me having my girlfriend and son over to stay.

how on earth could someone say a bird feeder is a public menace?!?!?!
I hate that for you! Mean old bastard indeed!! JERK!!
And the poor wee birdies, flying to get their treats and finding them gone.
Oh, that's just wrong on so many levels!!

But Good 4 U for finding the perfect reply. ROFLMAO

heh, you should find a space for a real bee hive. I also don't see how a bird feeder is a menace, unless you put it so that the birds' poo drops somewhere inconvenient like his grill, or his front porch, or hi car.

My landlord puts entire pieces of bread out for the birds on the front stoop AND has a bird feeder, so the birds not only poop all over my car if I park in front of my own house, but they're sitting there all the time practically flying in my face when I open the door. But I can't do anything about it. So if I can't do anything about that, there's no way he could have done anything for something that is so tiny in comparison and clearly not a public nuisance!

But rather than have to waste your time (and take a day off work, etc) just to fight a stupid claim, sometimes it is better just to cave. So I can understand the landlord's pov. What a shame though. At least you thought of a solution that will make you happy. Is this the same neighbor that had a dead squirrel floating in his pool?

I like the flag idea. Perhaps there is some yard space, perhaps a low tree branch where you could hang a feeder? We wanted to hang a couple of them on the rooftop, but the idea was trashed when people pointed out that bird droppings could be a problem. So, now we are thinking about next year and perhaps hanging a couple on trees along the street. Why not? Birds are in the trees anyway, so what would be the difference?

Some of these old coots are a real pain in the ass and will complain about anything or nothing, just to hear themselves make noise.

I love your reply! Somehow, I'd always
thought ravenous birds would be more
of a public menace. I trust you're not
yet ready to try Tom Lehrer's "Poisoning
Pigeons in the Park?"
