The New Hampshire House Judiciary Committee voted Tuesday in favor of repealing the Granite State’s 15-month marriage-equality law, according to the Associated Press.

From the proposed legislation:

"The vast majority of children are conceived by acts of passion between men and women – sometimes unintentionally. Because of this biological reality, New Hampshire has a unique, distinct, and compelling interest in promoting stable and committed marital unions between opposite-sex couples so as to increase the likelihood that children will be born to and raised by both of their natural parents. No other domestic relationship presents the same level of state interest."

Right. Because love is no reason to get married. And adoptive parents are not "natural" parents.

I swear I wish I could just move to some sane, progressive European country and never have to think about this pit of breeding-crazed bigots again.

So, according to them, I'm not truly married because I've been sterilized? How lovely...

WTF

That is such nonsense. Or rather, some of it is true and some is sorta true (depending on how you define "natural"), but even if you believe all of it entirely, there is still nothing there that argues against same-sex marriage. Hopefully it's just that the members of that committee are insane, and not that the entire legislature needs a boot to the head.

Grrrr.

When in Hell did New Hampshire's very conservative Christian community become virtual Roman Catholics? There has been a lot of talk lately among the Protestant fundamentalists about the "evils" of birth control. That was not always the case with them. When I was young they cited the Catholic ban on birth control as one of the major issues that divided them. I guess if I live long enough I'll see all kinds of reverses I never expected. Do you ever wonder what's next? I often do.

I'm guessing this is just some meaningless posturing, because I hadn't received any email about it. If it were significant, I'm sure I'd have had a dozen begging letters from mass equality etc. by now. Their website doesn't mention it, either, and they're generally pretty on the ball for regional politics.
