I'm guessing it's the gravy, but I don't know what the product is -- it's just the only thing on that plate unaccounted for, but also kiiiiinda pictured in the background.

We found the mystery ingredient -- it's Wesson oil. In my reply to [livejournal.com profile] xiphias below I give a link to my source.

I'm guessing it's Crisco shortening for the pie crust.

Okay, what am I missing? I only see three great American products -- SPAM, Carnation Evaporated Milk, and Gold Medal Flour. What's the fourth?

I'd eat a bite of that if someone dared me to. I might even eat a bite of it out of simple curiosity. But it does look fairly nauseating.

That's the mystery! Oh wait, it's not -- it's Wesson Oil. I scrolled down a bit on the post where I found this in [livejournal.com profile] vintage_ads:

[livejournal.com profile] beowabbit loves Spam. If i made this, I'm certain he would not only try it, but love it. I'd have to make a smaller pie that he could finish himself though, because I don't want any! but I do remember liking it as a child.

You would think, but it's Wesson oil! See my reply above!

I would have bet on Crisco because I do bake pies and I know that to get a really good crust you need ice cold solid shortening.

It looks kinda like a ham and cheese pie. I'd probably try a bite just to see what it tasted like. I tried my first bite of spam a couple years ago and posted here if you'd like to see the ideas I tried: http://fitfool.livejournal.com/171462.html
