Winston Floral delivered to the office. My boss got an enormous bouquet of pink roses from her wife.

I'm spending the evening at the gym.

Erm, my recollection was always that you were emphatically anti-Valentine's Day as a specific day for romantic observance; so you always told me, which is why I tended not to do things for you on V-Day when we were dating. As I recall, your distaste had to do with the commercialism and cultural pressure that the holiday embodied to you.

I freely concede that I may be misremembering details here, so feel free to correct. But I think I have the gist of it right.

p.s. That we never agreed on Valentine's Day (or as every store in Japan insists on calling it, St. Valentine's Day) doesn't make you a bad person; none of this is criticism.

Indeed, I don't like it as a day of obligation in particular. I don't like it as a day to be all sweet while mostly neglecting the rest of the year. I don't like it as a way of getting people to spend lots of money they don't have on mostly empty gestures.

Generally speaking, I do not ignore V-Day entirely, but keep things I do for it inexpensive so as to not buy in. My preference is to show my love every day, and the grand gestures can be on other days. I can enjoy playing with it and being romantic (I know I've told you about a few particulars), but that's just because I really love being all romantic and schmoopy in general.

That I have a million ideas (and a few actually things) with no place to go is hardly particular to this one day, which was my point.
