My cat has developed an idiosyncratic obsession with the bathroom.

For real. Our bathroom, as utilitarian a place as you'll ever find, has become the kingdom over which he is benevolent lord and master, and he wants the world to know what a splendid oasis his Lavatory Estate is. He wants the world to know it at 4:30 AM.

This is new. He's lived here for more than 6 years, and I never noticed him showing any particular affinity to the loo before. My guess is that he has only just recently established this tiny principality of our apartment as his own turf, since the rest of the apartment (and known universe) is dominated by our other cat, who is far and away the Alpha. They have a non-sexual D/s relationship, and the little subbie appears to be flying his flag from the tubbie. It's becoming a pain in the ass.

He's taken to meowing late at night from the bathroom. He thinks night time is the right time for potty sing-a-long. He’s not in distress – he just wants someone to come play with him in the bathroom. Last night it just went on and on and on. I was afraid he would wake up [livejournal.com profile] vanguardcdk, and sure enough, I heard him shuffle out to the bathroom at around 5:00 AM.

I don't even kick kitty out when I'm in there anymore. He'll just mewl outside the door until he can get back in. He follows me around the house when I'm home, but he continually urges for migration toward the bathroom. He'll look up at me hopefully... "Bathroom now? Bathroom?" He wants people to hang out in there.

My one hope is that he doesn't begin using the bathroom for what we use it for. That wouldn't do. This cat is "the good one" of the two, who never destroys things, never drama-barfs down the side of the stove, has up until recently been noiseless and dog-like in his obedience. But I'm really feeling the lack of sleep from the pre-dawn wake up singing from the john. The wee King needs to keep a quieter castle if he doesn't want a swim in the flushable moat.

My alpha tabby does the same thing! Just a few bars before the deed and a whole song after the vigorous scratch! If I'm conscious enough to reply, he'll come running on to the bed as if to say "Look what I can do"! However, I've had the "drama barf" on my shoes. Not good.

There's a drama barf in our house almost every day. The worst was the one barfed down into the burner of the gas stove. It was a nightmare to clean out.

The l'il kitty in the post above only barfs if he's genuinely feeling sick. But the alpha Siamese has made a high art form out of it. I've also seen him do the Roman-style vomitorium -- eats, pukes it up, and goes back to eat more.
