Performance Review
Apr. 6th, 2006 03:21 pmI just had my performance review. It went better than I expected.
To my surprise, I was offered a modest promotion, though it won't kick in until 6 months from now. Once it takes effect, the salary increase would allow me to stay with this company, which I would strongly prefer over the wretched and terrible hunt for something elsewhere.
The promotion comes with a few conditions that I'll be needing to meet between then and now, but honestly I don't mind having a carrot dangled in front of my nose. In fact, I'm the kind of person who often needs that. And I do like this company. It's gigantic and world famous, the benefits are quite good, and my boss is wonderful. Things have even gotten much better with my boss's boss.
I'm just going to have to find a way to coast financially between now and October. What I really need to be doing is freelancing in my off-hours, which a lot of other people around here do already. I've been stingy with my free time these last few years, but buckling down and taking 2 or 3 freelance projects a month would be enough to fill the financial gaps. If any of you are doing freelance editorial and know of leads, I'd be most grateful.
I celebrated the promotion by having real full-fat ranch dressing instead of the usual lite vinagarette, and if that isn't the dorkiest thing you've ever heard, then I need to be trying harder. :-)

Date: 2006-04-07 03:38 am (UTC)I've found I'm completely unable to anticipate my performance reviews. I got my best one at a time when I was so angry and resentful, I was sure it showed. Last year I got a poor one, and that took me by surprise too. So now it's coming up again, and I'm terrified.
More money is a good thing! Enjoy!
