Sometimes rehearsal feels like high school, except good high school. What I mean is, it sometimes feels like a kind of high school experience I didn't have myself, but wished I had, and assumed everyone cooler and more fortunate than me had. Sort of TV high school. It's like that, except everyone is teacher age.

More coffee, please.

And much like my high school experience, I'll grab any and all opportunities for a good nap. :D

I hated high school. I didn't fall into any cliques. I was just the one who had all of the answers.

T@F is what I went into college THINKING the professional theatre world would be like after my H.S experience. You know, a bunch of cool, friendly laid back people making art for art's sake?
Yeah, I was quite the naive little child back then.

Yep. I worked in the professional theatre for a number of years. The coldness and cut throat environment made me stop loving theatre. So I got me a desk job and came back home to the beloved rag-tag team. :-)

I got scared away from professional theatre by the evil, manipulative acting teachers and their sycophantic students. I didn't want to spend my life obsessing about my image and trying to impress people I loathed. For years I thought I wasn't good enough to do theatre and then I had a grad school professor (in an arts education program) tell me I "had a gift that I was obligated to share with the world." That made me stop and think that I shouldn't let a lot of egotistical assholes scare me away from performing. I made a promise to myself to try out for a play and Merry Wives was the first thing that caught my eye and well, I just sorta stuck around. A lot of people in the art world treat you like you are giving up if you choose a desk/teaching job but I feel like the joke's on them. I found a way to do theatre every day, and live above the poverty level whilst making a difference in the world to somebody BESIDES myself. I'm sure you feel the same way. It is nice not to have to take shitty theatre work just so you can eat. I like having the luxury to pick and choose the projects I'm involved in!

For some reason, that sentence struck me more strongly than most. It's just really heartening. Glad you shared.
