Dealing With The Storm Branch
Jul. 22nd, 2006 09:40 amLast night's microburst storm in Davis left us with a big mother branch in our front yard. I called the City of Somerville this morning to see if they would pick it up, but no dice. It has to be cut up and bundled neatly to be included in lawn refuse pick-up. Great. My tool inventory consists of a hammer and a screwdriver.
The branch is black and dead with no leaves, which is peculiar because there are no dead or dying trees in the immediate vicinity. With last night's tornado-like winds, it's possible that it blew from someplace farther. While I was at the show last night, mushrooms sprouted on it.
So maybe late tonight we could dress like ninjas and drag it to Powderhouse Park, from which the city will gladly pick it up. Naw, someone would see us. I can stomp some of the smaller branchlets off it, but basically it's 12 feet of wood. We're the only house on Bay State with a branch. It's like winning a reverse lottery.
UPDATE: The same city department that said No to pick-up for me just said Yes to
vanguardcdk when he called. Yet another reason to let the males of the household deal with anything yard-related. :-/
