The Wind

For those not in the Boston area today, the wind is like unto a frozen Antarctic blast that makes walking outside patently unsafe. I work in the Copley Square area downtown, which could be one of the windiest urban areas in the United States whether winter or summer, or at least seems so. Just now I was crossing Saint James Street, and it took every bit of my strength to get across the street with the wind hitting me from the side. I had to lean FULL weight into it or be blown over. If wind like that can almost blow 140-pound me off the ground, it could definitely send a 50-pound child tumbling head over heels into oncoming traffic. Do not bring children or pets into downtown today.

So, the laffy part of this is...who do you complain to? The only way it could be worse is if the ice sheets of last week were still on the ground, and in some places new ones are forming. It would have been a fine luxury to stay home due to the weather, but unfortunately that luxury doesn't belong to one such as I. And so, Boston wind, you get to blow me.

Ye gods...I was just wondering how the Copley area was doing today! I used to work in the old John Hancock Building, and never got used to seeing smaller pedestrians clinging to street signs and lampposts on days like this. Who designed this silliness, anyhow?

My skin is red and windburned just from being out in it for a few minutes. I'm not exaggerating when I say it could blow the skin right off your face if you stood facing into it for an hour. Which I don't advise.

I was clinging onto a pole at one point. Usually I see people with dogs on leashes down here, but I'm glad I haven't seen any today. Even a fairly large dog would be turned into a kite. Wanna go home!
