Dark House
Apr. 4th, 2007 03:52 pmSometimes I wonder why I need so much light to see and do most things. It didn't become apparent to me until about two years ago, but lighting levels that used to be sufficient aren't anymore. I have two 200-watt bulbs in the lamps in my room (compared to the recommended energy-efficient 60-watt) and there's still not really enough light to do the off-computer work I'm doing unless I move right under the lamp. My mother has a similar problem (but she's 72). This would be a mightily inconvenient time to go blind, or anything.
I first remember noticing this about two years ago when I was at a friend's house, cooking. The sun was setting and he didn't have any kitchen lights on, and was cooking away, apparently able to see just fine. I was having to feel ahead of me to find things. He couldn't understand why it seemed dark to me. For my sighted readers, anyone else seem to need more (or less) light than most?
I can't wait to use up these incandescent bulbs and switch to the new florescent. Hopefully that will help...
