plumtreeblossom: (short bus)

Our Heroine got on the wrong bus this morning. The numbers 80 and 89 look pretty much the same when you're near-sighted and not wearing your glasses as you should. I lemminged aboard, and although none of the regulars on my usual morning ride were present, I thought nothing of it and was so absorbed in studying my lines that I never looked up once until the bus was pulling into Sullivan Square, last stop. I had to take the T in to North Station and back out again to Lechmere. All that after feeling so smug about being uncharacteristically ready for the bus on time.

At least I'm off-book now.

PS - You're welcome for my newly minted past tense verb "lemminged." But would it more correctly be "lemmung?"

If you ever do this again, you can get off the Orange Line at Community College and walk across the Gilmore Bridge to Lechmere.

Yeah, sometimes it's easy to forget how small a geographical area I'm dealing with. Some day, I'm going to walk all the way home to Davis from Lechmere, just to get a sense of the distance.

Hey I've done that! Lots of fun..and very easy to get lost if you think "hey I'll just take this side street...this'll be easy". heh.

Although that is also how I discovered we have a Target in Somerville...

Actually, I think "lemming" is a gerund or past participle.

"I am lemming". So it would be "I lem, you lem, he/she/it lems, I lemmed, I was lemming, I am lemming."

Well, it could be idiomatic.

Check out the first three sentences of my post -- I use 3rd person, 2nd person, and 1st person all in the same paragraph. there's a copy editor on my f'list who's probably glad I'm not one of her authors!

ha ha! if its me you're talking about, of course i noticed it, but i thought it was charming. sometimes rules are meant to be broken, y'know? i usually don't even use captial letters on lj. its a relief not to have to think about all that stuff. :-)

Oops! *Hugs.* I hope you weren’t too late.

(I hope you weren’t as late as I am; I’m still at home.)

Thank you! I shall enjoy it.

Just be glad you weren’t trying to conjugate it in German. I’m sure it’s got to be irregular in German.

lemminged is better, i think. i also enjoyed that you began the story with "our heroine." it was a perfect fit for this post and had me grinning from ear to ear by the end of it. perhaps it will be "borrowed" in the near future. i have "our heroine" moments ALL THE TIME!!!!

for example: "our heroine discovered when she was awoken by an extremely loud chirping bird this morning at 6:47 a.m. that she had accidentally set her alarm for 7:20 a.m. instead of 6:20 a.m."

When Patrick and I lived out in Dracut, we accidently got on the wrong commuter rail train once. We got on at North Station and didn't even realize we were on the wrong train until Lynn. Whoops.

And I once missed my stop at Porter Square and had to walk from Belmont back to Alewife. Not the worst thing in the world, provided the weather is decent.

I made the same mistake in high school, but it was aurally. I read "Our Heroine" and I'm like "Why is she talking about heroin getting on a bus? Anthropomorphized heroin?" Sigh.
