I've had reason to think about kilts today, not the least of which being that [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit's sexah Utilikilt finally arrived today! Combining that with the swooningly hot Scottish brogues of the office renovation contractors I've been working with this week, I somehow ended up wandering onto a really neat website about district tartans.

District tartans represent a place or region, rather than a family clan. Their use is as old or older than that of clan tartan, and they're enjoying a revival. Hundreds of places all over the world have adopted official tartans, and they're for anyone with ties to that place, no need to have any clan or even any Scottish ancestry. The US and Canada each have dozens of local tartans, as well as national ones.

Click the link and then click "Tartan Finder" to see if your country, state, province or city has its own tartan:

Oooh, nifty! If I ever want to wear a tartan now I can wear the Massachusetts one.

I am so excited about the Utilikilt! *Smooches you, and offers to smooch all the other wonderful people who contributed!*

A lot of smoochable people helped out!

I know you can do a Scottish acccent. Sometime could you do it when we're in an ...intimate setting? The sound of it drives me quite wild. *smooches*

You watch out, or I might just blurt out “She canna take nae more, Captain! I’m givin’ her all I’ve got!” at an inopportune moment.

Okay. I am so glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that.

From the Scottish Tartans Museum in my home state!

Oddly enough, right now I'm reading How the Scots Invented the Modern World and learning a lot about Scottish migration to the U.S. (NC in particular) and Canada.

I have a tiny bit of Scottish ancestry -- wish I had more! Scotland is one of the favorite places I've ever visited. I could truly live there.

I am totally getting that Massachusetts tartan on a kilt.

It'll go well with my Celtic jersey :)
