Yesterday evening I walked for an hour and a half, Central Square to Powderhouse Square, basically. Tracing it on Yahoo Maps, it says it's only 3.24 miles. I feel sort of ripped off. It felt like 5.

I have a pedometer, but I haven't been able to calibrate it correctly. I wonder if any sporting goods stores sell pedometers and calibrate them for you in-store.

Interestingly, if you follow Mass Ave., the Kendall MIT, Central, Harvard, and Porter T stations are all about an even mile apart. If you go from the Porter T station up that little side street to Elm and then follow Elm into Davis, I believe that is about another even mile. I traced it out with my car once, and used to use these as mile markers when running.

It feels so much farther than that, when you're walking it. I might be adding some distance because of my habit of dodging to wherever the shade is, which sometimes means cutting across Mass Ave multiple times to get to the shady stretches. Also, it's time for me to invest in proper walking shoes.

Porter to Davis is only about a half mile.

I was mistaken, but the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Following the route I mentioned, and it is closest to 3/4 miles according to google maps.

I sometimes walk home from Central Sq. to my home on Willow. I've mapped out my usual route, and it's 2.7 miles, IIRC. Which way did you go?

[livejournal.com profile] bedfull_o_books and I will be walking from Central to Davis tonight, after I get off work. If you want to join us tonight, or some other time, let me know. :)

Ooh, I'd love to join you, if not today then sometime soon. I'm leaving work at 4:00 today. What time are you going to start walking?

I was thinking about 5:00-ish, myself, which is about the earliest I can leave work today. How's that for you?

I think I'll have to join you another day, since I'm leaving work now. But definitely keep me posted if you walk again! (on ordinary days I leave at 5:00.)
