Sadly, I missed ArtBeat today. It was too hot to even try it, and I found myself just not in the mood for festivities.

[livejournal.com profile] vanguardcdk and I have ALL of our air-conditioners cranking, and it's still fairly hot. There's a spider with bitey pinchers on the back balcony. I'm going out for the evening soon. I hope it cools down tonight, and that the spider goes away.

If it makes you feel better, I stayed inside too! ArtBeat, the Flea, the scavenger hunt, the childrens theater festival, I saw NONE. And when I look at the little puddles I left behind on the table just by resting my elbows there while I ate my salad, I think I made the right decision.

Ugh. :(

I so, so hope we have a "cold" snap for the T@F festival. But this is the 5th year in a row I have hoped for that in vain. (Actually 4 years. In year 2 I didn't get cast, so I hoped it would be 130 degrees. Celsius. What a bitter little insect I am. :-)

Try putting a portable fan next to you and having it blow right on you. When the AC can't make it cool enough, adding a fan can really help!

Does anybody at your house kill spiders?

We're in the same boat. We kept saying we'd walk to CVS if it ever cooled off. We never made it.

My favorite keepin’ cool trick:

Dress scantily [naked is best if company allows]. Set up a box fan. Put on some music you really like but know you couldn’t possibly enjoy right now, because you’re too hot. Stand in front of the fan and spritz yourself all over with a spray bottle of alcohol. Don’t forget your scalp and the back of your neck. [Be sure floor and surrounding items won’t be damaged.]

This will cool you off in a big hurry, and as you realize how comfortable you are becoming you will start to enjoy that music more than you ever have enjoyed it before. The conjunction of those two pleasures is likely to make you start to giggle, and the whole world will seem brighter.

It won’t get you out of the house to some event you really wanted to attend, but it’ll sure make you happier.

Thanks for the tips! I hope it cools off for when you're here in Boston!
