Where do you get your power? You may be able to buy renewable right now.

Since we got new electric service here in our Windsor Ridge apartment,
I took the opportunity to research the options I had with National
Grid for renewable energy. (IIRC when I checked with NStar when we
were living in Ashland, there were no such options, at least at that
time.)

They offered an option at a premium of $0.024 per kWh to distribute
power sourced entirely from renewable sources, purchased by the Mass
Energy Consumers Alliance. The program is called "New England
Greenstart 100%." I enthusiastically signed up Sarah and myself.

Then I got the fine print today and it says that "more than half of
your payments for New England Greenstart 100% are recognized as made
for the public good on behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth and
as a tax-deductible charitable contribution to the Massachusetts
Technology Collaborative ('MTC') for federal income tax purposes. See
our Terms of Service for the exact tax-deductible amount -- it is
continually increasing!"

Wow, that's awesome! I currently buy from Nstar. I don't know the exact per kWh, but it's very expensive. I'd like to find out more about this program. Is there a link?

Not sure if NStar offers it, but it's worth trying to find out, and if they don't, then you ought to agitate for it. :)

i totally wish this were possible, but i also totally doubt that people are going to be willing to put forward the initial investment to do this (especially given the current economic climate). i support it - i just can't see it happening realistically.
