Thoughts of Summer In Frigid Winter

Today's bitter cold has me daydreaming about summertime pleasures, and one in particular is especially warming.
beowabbit and I have a favorite North End restaurant, one called Mother Anna's which is on Hanover Street (The North End is Boston's Little Italy). What we most love about it is that it has an outdoor patio where we can dine while enjoying the warm evening breeze. We don't get to go often, but when we do its a delightful treat.
We'll get ourselves seated outdoors (its understandably popular so there's sometimes a wait, but it's worth it). The view on one side is a gorgeous cityscape, and on the other side we can watch the passersby on charming Hanover Street. We'll order some wine, or something non-alcoholic if we prefer.
The food is pure Little Italy comfort food. There's probably nothing on the menu that you haven't heard of -- scampi, cacciatore, parmigiana, diavolo -- all of the familiar treatments for chicken, veal and seafood. We usually start with their insanely delicious garlic bread, and perhaps stuffed mushrooms as well.
The Wabbit doesn't eat tomato, but that's okay because he can have alfredo or garlic & oil sauce on whatever he orders. I'm a pasta hound, and I'm likely to go for baked manicotti or ravioli. Oh yum...
I feel like I'm in some happy movie when I'm there. We sit enjoying each other's company and the evening sunshine as it fades, being so happy that we live in a city that offers such lovely but simple pleasures.
It's a long time until summer, but in time we will get to enjoy another al fresco dinner at Mother Anna's. For now, we can warm ourselves with memories. :-)
