Don't you hate when you have a small and relatively easy task that won't take very much time and won't be especially unpleasant, but for some inexplicable reason you've put it off and put it off until it becomes this stone around your neck that you continually think about but just don't do?

I'm going to do that task right NOW.

Today, it was a short application that I needed to fill out. I've been carrying it around in my purse for weeks. Its finally done, and I can move on to avoiding the next little task. :-)

Oh yeah. You end up spending several orders of magnitude more time looking at the task, deciding not to do it right now, and moving on to something else than you would spend on just getting the damn thing done.

oh my god, yes. i was supposed to set up our office's copy machine as a fax about a year ago, and i keep putting it off and putting it off...it's become a bad running jab in our office to tease jenn about when she's going to get that done!

I was at a birthday party on Sunday, and the birthday girl read a poem by Longfellow about exactly this. So you can perhaps find some comfort in the knowledge that even great literary lights did this to themselves.
