plumtreeblossom: (Can Has Jobs?)

For those who are job hunting, be extremely careful and vigilant about recruitment fraud. It is rampant right now, and it can destroy your life and finances like any other fraud. I got one today, from an off-brand sounding recruiting firm who had found my resume on Monster. The e-mail contained forms requesting information like my SS number and bank information "so we can set up direct deposit right away," without my even being interviewed. Don't get sucked in, no matter how urgent your search might be.

Is there ever any legitimate reason to give an SSN or bank account number to anyone before a job offer is confirmed?

Taking advantage of desperate people who are out of work is SO low!

Get your enemies sucked in. I've never heard of this being done, though.
