Lately, even though it hasn't been very cold, I've found myself needing to wear my heaviest winter coat, two pairs of socks, gloves and a hat. This leads me to wonder what I'm going to do when it actually gets cold for real. My current heaviest winter coat is a beautiful, long wool street coat, but I can't do much layering under it, and I'm thinking it needs to become my November and March coat, and something warmer needs to take over for the deep winter months.

I want something just like this in black. I don't care if it's ugly, warmth is more important. While I could afford to invest the $179 for the L.L.Bean coat if I cut corners elsewhere, I'm thinking I should check around locally for stores that might have something similar for less.

Any ideas?

I found one on the Land's End website for $127, and I'm just about settled that I'm going to get it. The one thing I have to do first is go to Sears and see if they have it in-store, in which case I could save the shipping costs. But yeah, I want a coat that truly keeps me warm. This one has goose down fill, which will be interesting since I've never had a down coat before.
